Still Life with Preserves, 1997-9

Large paintings of shattered glass windows and abstractions based on fire are combined in an installation with jars of preserved fruit and vegetables arranged on a spiral of salt. These oppositions describe the contrast between orderly domesticity and the threat of violence. This installation also invokes 'Kristallnacht' (the Night of Broken Glass, Nov. 9-10, 1938), when all over Germany, Jewish lives and property were destroyed.
