Andalusia (3)

Andalusia (3), 2003-4
(oil/handmade paper: two groups, each with twenty four paintings, 6' x 15')

Twin installations (colour and monochrome) of 24 page-like images reflect the importance of poetry and writing in the culture of Andalusia (750-1492 A.D., Iberian peninusula). The coloured pages contain 'texts' of individual letters of the alphabet, a Hebrew letter on one side and the corresponding Arabic letter on the other. There is no text on the monochromatic pages, perhaps indicating future unwritten histories of Muslims and Jews.
